The British were camped out ready to attack Germantown but then (commander of continental army) General George Washington launched a suprise attack onthe British but lost because of the Continental army’s poor armed defences. How it started was colonial resistance to the British attempt to tighten its control over its North American colonies. That resulted in the American Revolution which broke out in 1775 after years of conflict. In the years of the war,most of the fighting took place in the North. Driven from Boston in the spring of 1776, British forces had captured New York City later that year and launched invations from Canada in both 1776 and 1777. William Howe (leader of British Forces) led and expidition to capture Philidalphea. In the war 152 American killed, 521 wounded, and 400 captured. With the british 71 killed, 450 wounded, and 14 captured.Image result for battle of Germantown map
